Khlong Toei

Khlong Toei is also known as the Klong Toey. The Khlong Toei is basically refers to canal. It is located on the land of port authorities of the Thailand. More than 1 lakh people are living here. Here you will see more than 70,000 slum communities. The slum area is spread about 1 square mile.  The Chao Phraya River bordered this village; due to this river here, major port facilities are available. It is special because it is a major market hub.

Khlong Toei neighboring districts are as follows – Sathon, Phra Khanong, Yan Nawa, Amphoe Phra Pradaeng of Samut Prakan Province,  Pathum Wan and Watthana.


Earlier this district was the part of Phra Khanong. It was separated on 9 November 1989 into a new district called Khlong Toei. It consists of 6 subdistricts, but three left the Khlong Toei to form the new Watthana district. This happened on the 14 October 1997, and come into effect from 6 March 1998.



There are three sub-districts in this district from west to east, these sub-districts are as follows –

  • Khlong Toei
  • Khlong Tan
  • Phra Khanong


This Khlong Toei Port is also known as Bangkok Port. Earlier this was the Thailand’s only major port for the sea transportation of cargo. Its construction was begun in 1938 and finished after the end of the Second World War. This port is not far from the Gulf of Thailand. This port is located on the river Chao Phraya. The Khlong Toei Port was opened in 19971981. It has limited capacity. To get rid from traffic problems the shipping operation moved to Laem Chabang Port in Chonburi Province.

Bangkok Planetarium

It is one of the oldest planetarium in Thailand. It is located on the Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok. It is a part of the Science Centre for Education. The Bangkok Planetarium is operated by the Department of Non-Formal Education of the Ministry of Education.

Tamnak Plai Noen

Tamnak Plai Noen is the historic residence of the Prince Naris. It is classified as a museum.


Stock Exchange of Thailand Building

This was started officially for trading on 30 April 1975. Its name was changed on first January 1991, now the name is “The Stock Exchange of Thailand” (SET).

The Emporium, a luxury shopping center

It is a famous six-storey luxury shopping mall. Its center is in the Sukhumvit. It was opened in 1997. .. It is owned by the company Siam Paragon. Under this mall, tourists find a luxurious cinema, art exhibition space, food court, and a supermarket. You will also find the housing world-renowned designer brands.

Nana Plaza

Looking for fun and enjoyment, visit the major center of prostitution. You will also discover hottest bars.

Queen Sirikit National Convention Center

  • It is served by the Bangkok Metro station.
  • Here travelers found various exhibitions around the whole year.


Benjakitti Park

It is a public park; tourists stay and get relaxed while traveling. This park is near to the convention center. There is a big lake here which attracts visitors. Earlier this place is used by government for tobacco production.


Benjasiri Park

This park was established in the memory of the Majesty at their 60th birthday. Her majesty name was Queen Sirikit’s. It is available near to the Emporium.


The Chuvit Park

It is a public park in this district. It was established by Chuwit Kamolvisit. He is a politician. Earlier he had his own massage parlor. He created this park on his own land of 2400 m². It worth about 1,250 million at the time of opening located on Sukhumvit Soi 10 and opened in December 2005.


Khlong Toei Market

It is the largest wet market in Bangkok.

It is located on the Sunthon Kosa Road.

The following places of interest were formerly located in Khlong Toei District:

  • Lumpinee – Khlong Toei Boxing stadium

For those who love indoor games like boxing visit Lumpinee. It is also known as Muay Thai arena.  Earlier its location was Ram Intra Road; No, it is relocated to the Don Muang Airport.

  • Suan Lum – Night Bazaar

This was moved to the Ratchadaphisek.

This is moved because of the contract expiry.
