Siam Travel Guide

Compared to the other districts in Bangkok, Siam is the one that has the most variety of attractions, from art venues, cultural center, historical sites, theme parks, to interesting religious sites, Siam has it all. But one thing this place is best known for by foreign visitors is for being the shopping destination in Bangkok. There are so many great shopping centers here, including the Siam Center, Siam Discovery Center, Siam Paragon and Mbk Center. Each of these shopping centers offer a different shopping experience as well as entertainment.

Siam Attractions

Jim Thompson House – This beautiful Thai Teakwood house was owned by Jim Thompson, an American man who helped introducing Thai silk not only to the Western world, but also to the rest of the world. He left this house to be a national heritage and now it has become a tourist magnet.

Erawan Shrine – Even though it is a Brahman shrine, not Buddhist, Erawan Shrine is still one of the most popular places of worship in Bangkok. Situated stratetigally on the corner of Ploenchit and Ratchadamri Road just a short walk away from many shopping centers, this shrine always gets a lot of attention.

BACC – This is the biggest cultural center and art gallery in Bangkok featuring contemporary art, theatre, music, design and movies. Usually there is always an interesting show in this venue performed by international and local artists.

Siam Ocean World – This aquatic wonderland is located under the Siam Paragon shopping mall. It’s one of the largest aquariums in Southeast Asia, displaying more than 30,000 marine species from all over the world.

Madame Tussauds – one of the most popular attractions in Siam, Madame Tussauds Bangkok features realistic wax statues of world famous celebrities, politicians, athletes, royalties and many more.

Kidzania – Also located inside the Siam Paragon shopping Mall, this is a great place to visit if you’re traveling with your kids, they will have a blast playing in this artificial town and get to do things like adults.

Scala Cinema – This is not just any cinema, this is also a historical site. Built in the 60s, Scala Cinema retains its vintage look. But don’t let the outside appearance fools you, inside the cinema it has the latest screen and audio equipment.

Human Body Museum – If human remains don’t scare you, perhaps this would be an interesting place to visit. This unique museum located in Siam Square exhibits 14 dissected human bodies. It’s meant to be an educational exhibit, but of course some people might find it a little creepy and disturbing.

Playhouse Theatre – Bangkok is known worldwide for its ladyboy (transgender) community, and this is the place where you can see them in action. The Playhouse Theatre features a family friendly ladyboy cabaret show with wonderful costumes and beautiful dances.
