Silom Travel Guide

Silom is the most financial district in Bangkok and probably in the whole country. It hosts so many office buildings, financial institutions and bank headquarters. But Silom is not all about business, pleasure is also a big part of this district. Besides business centers this district also has a lot of great restaurants, malls, hotels and a very famous nightlife scene in Patpong area. Good thing for visitor is that Silom has really sophisticated transportation systems. It has a skytrain and underground train systems that can take you to just about any place in the district conveniently.

Silom Attractions

Lumpini Park – Bangkok doesn’t have many green spaces, so an open space with a lot of greens like Lumpini Park really becomes something special here. It occupies an area of 142 acres, this park is a great place to relax or ride a bike while enjoying the nature with skyscrapers on the background.

Patpong Night Market – Patpong is a nightlife area, but party scene is not the only thing you can find here. Patpong Night Market is one of the most popular attractions in Silom that provides various products for your shopping desire. Even if you don’t plan to buy anything, it’s still an interesting place to spend your night just browsing around observing the lifestyle of the locals.

Bangkokian Museum – This museum is located in a quite hidden spot, tucked away in a tiny soi. Sometimes called the Bangkok Folk Museum, it has a lot of interesting Siamese artifacts. The building is designed with traditional style, providing a very unique background for your photographs.

Sky Bar – Located at the Lebua State Tower, this place is made famous by the movie ‘Hangover II’. This fabulous rooftop bar is always overcrowded, but still it’s a fun place to enjoy your evening with a fantastic view of the city from above.

Bangkok’s Flight Experience – Probably the most exciting activity you can do in Silom, Bangkok’s Flight Experience offers you an experience of being a flight captain. Feel the sensation of operating a passenger plane in a very realistic flight simulator. But this experience is not cheap, for one ride you have to pay around 4,000 – 7,000 Baht or equal to 115 – 202 USD.

Kathmandu Art Gallery – Unlike most galleries that usually have boring colors and design, Kathmandu Art Gallery is really unique with its green ceiling and walls that entirely made of woods, beautiful vintage furniture all over the place and black& white floor. Checkout for art exhibitions that usually held every two months.

Sri Mariamman Temple – A very colorful Hindu temple that was built to honor the Hindu Goddess, Mariamman. This temple was constructed in the 1860s by Tamil immigrants and believed by the locals to have a healing power and even could prevent death.
